appealing album to date. Unlike his previous releases, which are solo recordings, Parallel Play
finds Michael accompanied by Carl Smith’s intricate yet tasteful bass guitar and the rolling,
propulsive, and jazz influenced percussion of Ryan Parsons, which creates a much fuller sound
and a great groove to Michael’s playing. At times, the album’s delicacy emerges with tracks
like Poor Little Bride and The Day After Christmas, while other times the album ventures into
somewhat of a pop/rock feel with selections like Plinko and a slowed down, almost hip-hop
version of the traditional tune Cripple Creek. Alternate versions of four songs previously found
on the album finish out the recording: duets of Plinko and Carousel with guitarist Ben Woolman,
a twelve-string slide guitar duet version of Cripple Creek with guitarist Steve Kaul, and an
idiosyncratic remix of The Bobber.

Recorded in October 2006 and released on American Sketch Records in February 2007, Live From Fort Collins--the latest release from MICHAEL YOUNG and the follow-up to his debut I Listen To My Feet--is an hour long, unedited live in-studio radio performance originally broadcast on KRFC 88.9 FM in Fort Collins, CO. The intimacy and simplicity of the recording emerges as Michael and host Philip Coggon chat--unscripted--and enjoy the nine (9) tunes interspersed with interview over the course of the hour. Live From Fort Collins not only reveals Michael’s rhythmic, bouncy, and melodic playing, but also reveals a candid look at Michael on a personal level.
